MILWAUKEE - The UWM women's volleyball team earned its 20th win of the season after pounding UW-Green Bay, 15-5, 15-2, 15-11, Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers came out on fire, plowing through UWGB in the first two games. But, the Phoenix kept the match alive by jumping out to an 11-4 lead in the third game. After a time out, UWM blew past the Phoenix to a 15-11 win.
Eleven Panthers saw action in the match, including three freshmen. Senior Ericka Malterer (OP, Waupun, Wis.) turned in the Panthers' top all-around performance, tallying 9 kills, 3 assists, 4 service aces, 8 digs, and 2 block assists. Kristen Krubsack (Fr., OH, Clintonville, Wis.) had a team-high nine kills and also recorded five digs. Chrissy Schurla (So., MB, Chicago, Ill.-Evergreen Park also had nine kills and added 4.5 blocks.
UWM continues its final home stand of the season next week by playing host to DePaul on Wednesday, Loyola on Friday, and UIC on Saturday.
