Luedke Sparks Panthers to 2-1 Win

Oct. 13, 1999

Chicago - The UWM men's soccer team picked up a road conference win when they defeated Loyola, 2-1, in double overtime on Wednesday night.

Senior Joe Luedke, who was criticized for his play by UWM coach Louis Bennett earlier in the week and taken out of the starting lineup, answered the criticism with a pair of goals.

With the Panthers down 1-0, he scored on a short corner kick from Byron Huson in the 75th minute to force overtime. In the second extra session, Luedke outpaced a defender on a breakaway and lifted the ball over the Rambler keeper from 20 yards out. The goal came in the 114th minute and was Luekde's fourth goal and ninth point of the season.

With the win, UWM improves to 8-5-1 and 2-0-1 in MCC play. Loyola falls to 4-7-3, 1-3-1 in the MCC.

UWM plays host to Detroit on Sunday at Uihlein Soccer Park.
