SANTA CLARA, Calif. (November 14, 2015) –
A balanced scoring attack that featured four players in double figures helped lead Milwaukee (2-0) to a hard-fought 71-65 victory over Lipscomb tonight at the Leavey Center in the second day of action at the Cable Car Classic. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2011-12.

"Jordan Johnson's decision making was big tonight and (Matt) Tiby's toughness on the three-point play late in the game was key," Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter said. "This was a gut check for us and we made enough plays to win. I'm really proud of the guys and how they've handled adversity so far this season."

Much like last night, both teams were slow out of the gate, but a Jordan Johnson layup shortly after the first media timeout ignited a 12-5 Milwaukee run that featured a pair of three-pointers from J.J. Panoske. That spurt pushed the Panthers' lead to 17-10.

A three from Cody Wichmann gave Milwaukee a 26-19 advantage, but Lipscomb used a 22-8 run to grab hold of a 41-34 lead before Austin Arians drained a three from the corner just before the halftime buzzer to send the Panthers into the locker room trailing 41-37.

Panoske totaled 12 points and seven rebounds in the first half alone, but the Panthers only connected on 29.4 percent (5-for-17) of their long-range attempts.

Johnson helped Milwaukee seize control of the game right from the start of the second half, scoring nine of the Panthers' points during an 11-0 run that gave Milwaukee a 48-41 advantage.

Lipscomb would close within 49-47, but a three from Arians sparked an 8-2 surge that gave Milwaukee an eight-point lead (57-49), its largest of the night.

The Bisons wouldn't go down without a fight and closed within 67-65 before Matt Tiby hit a layup with a defender draped all over him, to draw a foul. His ensuing free throw gave the Panthers a 70-65 lead with 13 seconds left and sealed the outcome.

Panoske collected a career-best 15 rebounds to go with 12 points on the night. Arians, Johnson and Tiby also added 12 points apiece as Tiby extended his streak of consecutive games with 10 or more points to 23.

"J.J. was phenomenal tonight," Jeter said. "He was playing against a guy that was 20 pounds heavier but just outworked him for rebounds. We always knew J.J. could score, but getting rebounds has been that missing piece for him and tonight he was phenomenal."

Milwaukee held Lipscomb, which was led by 14 points from J.C. Hampton, to 28.1 percent (9-for-32) shooting in the second period.

The Panthers close out play at the Cable Car Classic Sunday when they take on host Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m. Pacific.  A victory Sunday would give the Panthers their first 3-0 start since 2011-12.
