Rudiger earned nine letters in cross country, basketball and track at Milwaukee State Teachers College. He was named cross country and track captain and was twice named captain and All-Conference in basketball. Rudiger, a three-time conference champion in the two-mile run, also broke that record his sophomore year. After graduation, he went on to become a coach in the Milwaukee School System.
