Bania put together a strong career in both football and track while at UWM from 1970-1974. On the football field, he lettered four times, starring as a defensive back and kick returner. He led the team with six interceptions his freshman year and again led the team with four interceptions as a junior. Plus, he once returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown. He was also tied for third on the team in tackles during his freshman year. On the track, Bania was considered a consistent hurdler, scoring points in almost every race of his collegiate career. His efforts earned him team co-captain honors during his senior year. Bania was the winner of the 1974 Chancellor's Award, given at the time to the senior athlete who best combines academic and athletic success. Bania has worked for over 20 years for Cooper Power Systems in Pewaukee. His wife, Michelle (Pawlak) Bania, was inducted into the UWM Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.
