Flayter compiled a 93-14 record as a four-year letterwinner on the UWM wrestling team. He was a three-time state AAU champion and a four-time state collegiate champion. Flayter was also voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler at UWM for three years and served as a co-captain twice. He was also the first person nominated for NCAA All-American honors from UWM.
