A four-year letterman in swimming at Milwaukee State Teachers College and captain of the 1954 team, Cibik competed in the 100-, 200-, and 400- yard freestyle events and was a three-time member of the record setting 400- yard freestyle relay team. In addition, he served as president of the Interfraternity Council and Grandmaster of Delta Sigma Kappa fraternity. He was awarded the 1954 Academic Science Award for a 3.8 GPA in his major, life sciences. He has since been active in AAU and high school swimming and coached at Waukesha High School, earning a record of 141-1 in dual meets. His teams took the state title 12 times and finished second three times. He has been named to the University of Wisconsin Swim Coaches Hall of Fame and is a Wisconsin Swim Coaches Distinguished Service Award Winner.
