A Milwaukee State Teachers College athlete in football and track, Leverson collected seven letters in the two sports. He captained Coach Herman Kluge's 1947 state champion team. During his collegiate career, MSTC captured six state championships, three football and three track titles. After graduating with an elementary education degree, Leverson worked in the Milwaukee area school system before serving as principal of Waukesha for five years.
