Lobins was the first male national champion in UWM history, winning the 1984 NCAA Division III 800 meter race. He was a six-time All-American in track and field, and after his career held nine UWM track and field records. Lobins was named to the 1987 NAIA District 14 Men's Cross Country first team, and qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country championships twice.
