A summa cum laude graduate in physical and health education, Luellwitz earned eight letters in volleyball, basketball and track. She was captain of the volleyball team and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She then worked a teacher and coach at Nicolet High School and served as instructor for the Red Cross.
