Stanzer earned a total of 12 varsity letters in football, track and basketball while at UWM. He set individual records in basketball, tied the school?s low hurdle record and was an all-conference running back for two years. His 65-yard punt return in 1956 is still a school record. He also captained the football team that year. Stanzer is a former member of the Athletic Board of Directors, the Grant and Aid Committee, the Executive Board of the UWM Alumni Association and the First President of the National Varsity Club.
