As an anchor in the line of the "Green Wave" of the early 1940s, Dunst played on both offense and defense from 1940-42. After V-12 training, he served as an officer in the U.S. Marines in World War II. After the war, he returned to Milwaukee State Teachers College and gained two more letters in football and track. The West Bend-native became a coach and teacher in the Milwaukee school system after graduation.
