Lagos played a notable role in the legacy of the UWM soccer tradition. He came to UWM in 1988 as Minnesota's most highly recruited soccer player and wasa standout for the Panthers through 1991. Lagos helped UWM into the NCAA Tournament in 1990 while earning individual honors as a two-time all-Big Central Conference performer. In addition, he was a two-time NSCAA All-Region honoree for coach Brian Tompkins. Lagos also made his mark as a member of the United States Youth World Cup team in Saudi Arabia in 1989, helping the US to a fourth-place finish - the highest-ever for a US team in the event. He played professionally for the Minnesota Thunder for 12 years, helping the Thunder capture the A-League Championship in 1999. Lagos earned academic All-American honors as a Panther in 1990 and left UWM in 1991 to pursue a professional soccer career in Europe. He returned to the University of Minnesota in 1994, earning a bachelor of science in civil engineering in 1996. Lagos remains active in the soccer community by coaching at St. Paul Academy, his high school alma mater, and the St. Paul Blackhawks.
