Carley earned several letters in six sports, excelling in football, track, gymnastics, swimming and diving and golf at the University of Wisconsin Extension. Carley, an Army Air Force captain, played on championship football, baseball and bowling teams while in the service. His civic contributions were so outstanding that a bell tower was erected in his name at Lac du Flambeau. He passed away in 1968.
