Gerboth was a lineman on the Milwaukee State Teachers College football team, which won state conference championships in 1929 and 1930. He was also a member of the track team and was a senior captain. The team won state titles all three years he competed and Gerboth set records in the shot put and discus. He also competed as a center on the basketball team. After college, he went on to be a long-time football coach at West Division High School.
