Kooping was a four-year letterwinner in track and a two-year letterwinner in field hockey. She was the state long jump champion in 1976 and 1977 and she was on the 880-meter and 440-meter relay championship teams in 1976. She qualified for three-straight national track meets from 1975-77 and set UWM and state records in the long jump at 18-feet 6 1/2-inches in 1977.
