Kostowicz Signs Professional Contract With Athinaikos

Recently wrapped up Panther career as part of the winningest class in program history

MILWAUKEE – After four standout seasons with the Milwaukee women's basketball team, Steph Kostowicz has signed a professional contract to play overseas with Greek power Athinaikos.

Kostowicz recently wrapped up her outstanding career at Milwaukee, helping the Panthers to 72 wins in her time on campus to make her part of the winningest class in program history. She also broke the school record for blocks in both a single season (61) and career (174).

"I am very excited to begin my professional career with Athinaikos," Kostowicz said. "They are a team with a great coach, great players and they're located in the beautiful city of Athens.

"I'm very thankful for my Milwaukee coaching staff, specifically coach Rechlicz and coach Covington. They have guided me through this entire process. I'm also extremely thankful for strength coach Matt Holt who has been preparing me this entire summer.

"I will miss my days on the court in a Milwaukee jersey dearly, but I cannot wait to continue to grow into the best player I'm capable of becoming."

Steph KostowiczA three-time All-Horizon League honoree, Kostowicz helped the Black & Gold to new heights, as the Panthers advanced to the postseason each of the past three seasons, winning a WNIT game this past season after advancing to the WBI Semifinals one year earlier.

She graduated with her name covering the Milwaukee record book, ranking third in rebounds (898), sixth in scoring (1,529), fifth in games played (117), sixth in starts (102) and third in double-doubles (31), among many others.

Athinaikos, located in Vyronas – a suburb of Athens, has shown itself to be a force in the Greek League. They won four consecutive league titles from 2009-2012, including bringing home the Greek Cup three times and the Euro Cup once in that same time span. The team set a Greek League record with 105 consecutive wins from 2008-2012.

Kostowicz will report to the team in September, with the team's first game scheduled for early October.
