MILWAUKEE - Jelena Sever of Franklin, Wis., Elaina LaMacchia of Mequon, Wis., Taylor Hattori of Hartland, Wis., Haley Johnson of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Kelsey Gallagher of Orland Park, Ill., are all enrolled and set to play for the Milwaukee women's soccer team, head coach
Troy Fabiano announced today.
"We are really excited to add such a dedicated group to our team for the spring," Fabiano said. "Bringing in five young women who have made the decision to graduate high school early and join our team speaks volumes about who they are as students and who they aspire to be as athletes. It is a great opportunity for them to get a jump academically and athletically."
In addition, Jessica Schoenfeldt of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Chandler McDaniel of Corona, Calif., have transferred into the program.
"We are also incredibly excited to be adding two outstanding transfers to our team," Fabiano said. "Anytime you have the opportunity to add players that have had success at the college level and can bring in that experience is a tremendous opportunity."
Sever graduated early from Greendale High School, where she was a three-year starter on the soccer team. She was named First-Team All-Woodland Conference and to the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area team as an honorable mention selection as a junior last spring. That followed second-team all-league honors as a sophomore. The two-year team captain was also a member of the tennis team.
LaMacchia comes to Milwaukee following a stellar three-year run as the goalkeeper at Cedarburg High School. A second-team all-state and First-Team North Shore Conference All-League selection as a junior, LaMacchia was a first-team all-league honoree as a sophomore and a member of the second-team as a freshman. The scholar-athlete also played three seasons on the basketball team.
Hattori helped Arrowhead High School to its first Classic 8 Conference title since 2002 and a spot in the Division 1 sectional final as a junior, earning first-team all-league status as well as a spot on the 2017 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Second-Team All-State. The defender/midfielder was also on the second-team all-area squad and was a second-team all-state honoree as a sophomore.
Johnson led Kenosha Tremper to a 19-6-0 record and a sectional final appearance after scoring 36 goals and adding 15 assists in what turned out to be her final season as a junior. Those numbers helped her earn 2017 Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association All-State Honorable Mention honors, as well as being named the Southeast Conference Player of the Year and to the all-league first-team. A team captain as a sophomore and junior, she overcame a leg injury in 2016, earning "Comeback Player of the Year" at the
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports Awards in May of 2017.
Gallagher comes to Milwaukee from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Ill. Gallagher did not play for her high school team, spending her prep career as part of eight seasons with the Chicago International Soccer Club.
Schoenfeldt is a transfer into the program from Fort Wayne and will be a sophomore in the fall. She earned a spot on the 2017 Summit League All-Freshman Team in her one season with the Mastodons, starting all 18 games. She finished with seven points (3G/1A) on the year, recording 31 shots. That followed a very successful prep career at Crystal Lake South High School where she was a captain and four-year varsity player. As a senior, she helped lead the Gators to a 19-2-1 record, winning the Fox Valley Conference championship for the second year in a row. She finished with 25 goals and 13 assists, earning the 2017
Northwest Herald Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
McDaniel comes to the Panthers from Virginia Tech, appearing in 34 contests over the past two seasons. She will be a junior in the fall and played in 17 games in 2017, recording an assist and four shots for the Hokies. That followed a prep career at Norco High School, earning all-county honors three times and all-sectional accolades twice. She earned the Big XIII Offensive Player of the Year award as a junior, leading the league and division in goals scored. She also paced the team in goals as a senior, part of three straight years the team captain was named MVP of her squad.
