Women’s Basketball Announces 2017-18 Non-Conference Schedule

Panthers look to continue winning ways against challenging slate

MILWAUKEE – Following a school-record-tying 22 wins a season ago, the Milwaukee women's basketball team will look for its third-straight trip to the postseason with a challenging non-conference schedule, released today by head coach Kyle Rechlicz.
 
A home game against Marquette, road games at Northwestern, Drake and Wisconsin and a spot in the Preseason WNIT highlight this year's non-conference slate.
 
"I'm very excited about what this year has in store for us," Rechlicz said. "Our staff has done a tremendous job of creating a challenging, yet balanced schedule for us this season. There will be plenty of tests for us, and I'm confident that we'll be ready to meet these challenges before starting conference play."
 
The Panthers open things up with a non-conference contest Nov. 5 against an opponent still to be determined inside the Klotsche Center.
 
UWM will kick off its regular season and its Preseason WNIT action Nov. 10 against a Drake squad that quite a bit of attention last year, going 28-5 overall and a perfect 18-0 in conference play.
 
Milwaukee will play at least two more games in the Preseason WNIT between Nov. 12-19, with opponents, locations, dates and times determined following the opening-round matchup.
 
"We're thrilled and honored to be invited to such a premier early season tournament in the Preseason WNIT," Rechlicz said. "Every team in this field is elite, and Drake presents a great test for us right out of the gates. Our team is excited to compete we will be ready both physically and mentally for the challenge."
 
Following the in-season tournament, Milwaukee will square off against a familiar foe in former Horizon League affiliate Loyola Nov. 21 inside the Klotsche Center. The Panthers then close out the month of November with a trip to Western Illinois on the 26th.
 
Opening up the month of December is a home game against North Dakota State Dec. 1. Two days later, UWM makes the short trek across the state line to take on Northwestern in a rematch of last year's early season thriller in Milwaukee.
 
Milwaukee returns home Dec. 7 to take on Illinois State, followed by a short trip to Fort Wayne to take on the Mastodons Dec. 10.
 
A pair of in-state rivalries highlight the middle of the month, starting with a trip to Madison, where the Panthers will look to make it two-in-a-row against the Badgers Dec. 14 at the Kohl Center. Then it's back home to take on cross-town rival Marquette Dec. 17 from the Klotsche Center.
 
The Panthers close out their non-conference schedule with a short drive to Chicago State Dec. 21, before the conference slate is set to open.
