Bre Cera Transfers To Milwaukee

Area standout started 18 games at Iowa as a freshman last season

MILWAUKEE – Women's basketball coach Kyle Rechlicz has announced today that Bre Cera has signed to play with Milwaukee.

Cera, who started 18 games as a true freshman at Iowa this past year, will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the coming season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"We have taken a huge leap this week in signing a local star, Bre Cera, to Milwaukee," Rechlicz said. "When I first arrived here five years ago, she was the player I wanted in Panther black and gold. Fortunately, things have come full circle and we, as a staff, are going to get the opportunity to build her into the player she has dreamed of becoming. Her and her family's kindness, while also being competitive, fit our program culture, and her ability to score in a variety of ways fits our system. I look forward to watching her grow the next four years both on and off the court."

Cera made her presence known right away at Iowa, starting 18 games as a true freshman and appearing in all but three during her first collegiate season. She averaged over 16 minutes per game and while helping the Hawkeyes to a deep run in the WNIT.

The transfer is a homecoming of sorts for Cera, who was a highly sought after high school player from nearby Mukwonago. The 5-foot-10 guard was ranked as the 11th best high school guard in the country by ESPN and ranked as the 83rd best national prospect by Blue Star Basketball. A finalist for the 2016 Wisconsin Miss Basketball Award, Cera racked up numerous state, regional and conference honors with Mukwonago and helped the Indians to four straight state tournament appearances, including bringing home a pair of Silver Ball trophies as the state runner-up.

The 2016 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Player of the Year, Cera broke the 1,000 point scoring mark midway through her junior season, becoming the program's all-time leading scorer in the process.
