Ed McCants and his group of Milwaukee Panther basketball alumni are not only playing to represent their school, they are also playing for a greater cause. The team has announced it will donate $200,000 to help combat the heroin epidemic should they win.
Â
Over the course of the rest of the month of May we will look at the roster that has been assembled. Up next is
Matt Tiby.
Â
Despite playing just three seasons, Tiby goes down in the record books as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Milwaukee uniform. He started all 34 games in his first season at UWM, leading the Panthers to the Horizon League Tournament title and a trip to the 2014 NCAA Tournament after averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. A Second Team All-Horizon League selection as a junior (13.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game), he capped his career with First-Team All-League and all-district honors as a senior, a season in which he led the team in scoring and rebounding - setting career highs with 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
Â
Tiby finished his career at No. 11 on the all-time scoring list with 1,332 points and No. 6 on the all-time rebounding list with 570 boards (No. 2 in NCAA DI era). He became the 26th player to score over 1,000 points for the Panthers and 15th to reach the 1,000 point/500 rebound plateau.
