Voting needed to help “Banner Boys” qualify for spot

MILWAUKEE - A group of former Milwaukee men's basketball players needs your help in order to qualify for the 2017 TBT.

The Basketball Tournament (TBT) is an open-application, single-elimination tournament played each summer in the USA, currently featuring 64 teams. It was founded in 2014 by Jonathan Mugar.

Ed McCants (2003-05 at UWM), the 2004-05 Horizon League Player of the Year who led the Panthers to the NIT in 2004 and the NCAA Tournament in 2005 after averaging 17.4 points a game, is serving as the Team General Manager for the squad named the "Banner Boys".

Voting opened April 1 and will run until June 1, 2017. All teams must have at least 7 players and 100 votes by June 1 to be eligible, which the "Banner Boys" already have. Games will start June 6 and will be shown on ESPN.

The 64-team field consists of sixteen (16) teams playing in each of the four (4) regions: Northeast, Midwest, South, West. Nine (9) of those 16 will be automatically selected based on popularity (# of Votes on TheTournament.com as of June 1 at 12 p.m. ET). Six (6) "at-large" teams will be selected in each region. The prize pool this season will be $2 million.

Former players currently on the listed roster (final eligibility TBA) include McCants, Clay Tucker, Dylan Page, Boo Davis, Jordan Aaron, Joah Tucker, Matt Tiby, Cody Wichmann, J.J. Panoske, Steve McWhorter, Chris Hill, Avery Smith, Ricky Franklin, Jason McCoy, Nate Mielke and Walter Waters.
