Kostowicz Earns First Player Of The Week Honors Of The Year

Senior put on dominant showing in Preseason WNIT opener

MILWAUKEE – After an impressive showing in the season opener, Steph Kostowicz of the Milwaukee women's basketball team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

This marks the fourth time in her career and the first time this season Kostowicz has been honored as the league's top player of the week.

The Franklin, Wis., native kicked off her senior year with authority on a big stage, nearly taking down Drake – ranked third in the mid-major poll and receiving votes in the national poll – in the Preseason WNIT. She finished Friday's opener with a game high 26 points and 12 rebounds to go with two blocks, two assists and one steal. Even more impressive, Kostowicz's offensive outpouring came on nearly perfect shooting, going 9-14 from the floor and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line.

Both her point and rebound totals were the second most of any player in the first round of the opening-season tournament.

The Panthers will wrap up their run in the Preseason WNIT this weekend down in New Orleans, La. Milwaukee will take on Houston Friday evening before playing either CSUN or host New Orleans Saturday.
