MILWAUKEE - Men's basketball head coach
Pat Baldwin announced today that
DeAndre Abram has transferred into the program and has signed to play with Milwaukee.
Abram joins the Panthers following two seasons at George Mason. He will sit out the 2017-18 campaign and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"What we are looking forward to most is the ability to work with him during the season while he is sitting out and really develop him all-around," Baldwin said. "He had a good freshman season at George Mason. Following his sophomore year, he ended up deciding to transfer to play with us here in Milwaukee. I think it's our fortune that we get someone like DeAndre, especially in our first year. I think it will be a very good situation for him moving forward."
A 6-foot, 7-inch guard from Carrollton, Texas, Abram appeared in nine games as a sophomore, making one start. He shot 46.2 percent from the floor, averaging 3.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in under 10 minutes per game on average.
That followed a very good freshman campaign, in which he appeared in all 32 games and made 13 starts. He averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest, highlighted by a 27-point/10-rebound effort against Wagner that earned him one of two Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors that season. His first came after a career-high 24-point effort against Longwood in his first collegiate start.
He scored 16.9 points per game as a senior at Creekview High School, earning 2015 District 11-5A Offensive Player of the Year honors. Was named All-Region 2-5A and Team MVP after helping Creekview to its first playoff win in 12 years.
