Bryce Nze Named Horizon League Freshman of the Week

Newcomer scored a career-high against UIC

MILWAUKEEBryce Nze of the Milwaukee men's basketball team has been named Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.

Nze continues to progress as a freshman, playing a key role in the 2-1 week the Panthers posted in conference play. In three games over the past week, he averaged 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game despite playing on average only 18.7 minutes per outing.

He became the first UWM freshman in 16 years to score 20-plus in a game, netting 22 on 10-12 shooting against UIC. He also added 13 points, seven rebounds and a career-high five assists in the win over Cleveland State. He shot 79.2 percent (19-24 FG) for the week and is currently at 67.0 percent from the floor this season.

His 10-of-12 shooting effort against the Flames (.833) checked in as the third-best single-game effort in school history (minimum of 10 made FG).

This is the first Freshman of the Week honor for Nze and is the first for a Milwaukee player since Justin Jordan earned the honor Nov. 17, 2014.
