Holbert Named Horizon League’s NCAA Woman Of The Year Nominee

Former women’s soccer standout was an Academic All-American in 2015

MILWAUKEE (July 27, 2016) – Former Milwaukee women's soccer standout Kelsey Holbert has been selected as the Horizon League's nominee for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award, it was announced today.

Holbert exhausted her eligibility in the fall, helping the Panthers to a Horizon League regular-season title in 2015. The midfielder totaled one goal and six assists last fall en route to Second Team All-Horizon League accolades. During her illustrious career, Holbert earned All-Horizon League honors on three occasions and her 21 career assists finished tied for seventh in program history. Her 47 total points places her 13th on Milwaukee's all-time chart.

Off the field, Holbert, who earned a degree in chemistry (pre-med), earned CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America recognition in 2015. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District Team selection, the Western Springs, Illinois native was also a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, and was named Milwaukee's Female Senior Student-Athlete of the Year in 2015-16.

Holbert has been a two-time Relay for Life team captain and has volunteered for the Hospital Elder Life Program.

"Kelsey was the kind of student-athlete you want all of your players to be," Milwaukee women's soccer coach Troy Fabiano said. "She is dedicated, works hard, is coachable, puts the team's success over her own and will do whatever she can to help the team reach its goals. Kelsey conducts herself in a manner beyond reproach. She is a model of acceptance, inclusion and respect. She sees situations through a lens greater than herself, wanting to help those around her have success."

The NCAA will select the top 30 individuals (10 per division) in early September and then will narrow the list to the top nine (three per division) in late September. The 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year will be selected from those nine candidates and be announced October 16 in Indianapolis.
