August Haas Signs NLI With Milwaukee Men’s Basketball

Guard comes to Milwaukee from Denmark

MILWAUKEE - August Haas has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Milwaukee Panthers, it was officially announced today by men's basketball head coach LaVall Jordan.

Haas, a 6-foot, 1-inch combo guard, becomes Jordan's second signed recruit. He currently attends school in his native Copenhagen, Denmark, at Gammel Hellerup Gymnasium. He played the past three seasons with the SISU Basketball Klub in Denmark's top professional league while maintaining his eligibility with the NCAA.

The Panthers are excited to welcome Haas to their current recruiting class.

"We are thrilled August is signing with us," Jordan said. "He is a great kid and is extremely excited about Milwaukee. He is a strong, solid guard who is a good decision-maker and is strong at the point. He has been playing in a league where his experience will really help us. He will be ready to play and contribute immediately with his international experience against older players. On top of that he will be a great teammate and he is a winner. We look forward to coaching him and to him being part of our program."

Last season, Haas earned a starting role with SISU, alongside two former NCAA student-athletes, Maurice Creek (George Washington/Indiana) and Devin Cherry (Cornell). Despite being the youngest player on the team and one of the youngest in the league, August made an impact by averaging 13.9 points and a team-high 4.4 assists per game.

Haas had his personal-best outings against two of the top teams in the league in Navestved and Randers. Navestved featured two Americans, who played at Coppin State and Nebraska, with August netting a game-high 27 points. In one of the biggest victories for his young team, August scored 34 points and handed out five assists against Randers, which featured Charles Burgess, who played his college ball at Texas Tech. At the end of the season, Haas was named Best Young Player of the Year.

He also has represented his country on many occasions. One special moment was helping lead the Danish National Team to the U16 Euro Championship against the host country, Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a member of the gold medal-winning national team, he averaged 13 points and handed out close to four assists a game. In recognition of his stellar play, he was one of the five players named to the all-tournament team. In addition, he averaged 16.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the U-18 European squad last year.

A strong student in the classroom, Haas plans to enroll in the Lubar School of Business.
