Milwaukee Posts More Top Results At Nation’s Top Meet

Sprint medley relay posts second-fastest time in school history

Des Moines, Iowa – Despite once again battling the elements, the Milwaukee track and field team continued to churn out top results against the best in the nation Saturday at the 107th running of the Drake Relays.

One relay record nearly fell while two other Panthers finished in the top eight at the storied meet that brings in thousands of competitors from around the globe.

"The team competed well today," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said. "It was certainly not the most prime conditions with wind and rain, but they still came out and competed well and I'm happy with that. We had a pretty good showing at arguably the biggest meet in the country. As a coach, there's not much more you can ask for."

The men's sprint medley relay opened up the day by nearly taking down a school record. The foursome of Davontae Johnson, Kyle Becker, Marquis Johnson and Tony Sustachek teamed up to cross the line in 3:27.95 – just two seconds shy of the school record set back in 2005. That time also was good for 11th overall on the day – ahead of numerous power five schools including Wisconsin and Ohio State.

Next up was Brett Pozolinski. The senior continued his incredible season with yet another strong showing, clearing 2.13m (6-11 ¾). That height tied him for fourth overall, but he placed eighth out of the deep field of 25 based on attempts.

Nate Pozolinski then turned in his second-fastest time ever in the 110m hurdles. After winning his preliminary heat on Friday, N. Pozolinski took fifth overall in Saturday's final with an incredible time of 13.86 seconds – less than one-hundredth of a second shy of fourth place amongst some of the best in the nation.

The women's sprint medley relay rounded out the day's action. Anuli Okonkwo, Lauren Magnuson, Kate Novacek and Dana Clausen combined for a solid time of 4:07.21 for 12th overall on the day.

Milwaukee wraps up its busy weekend with another day of competition on Sunday at Whitewater, Wis. for the Drake Alternative – the Panthers final action before next weekend's Horizon League Championships.
