Panthers Close Out Busy Weekend With More Wins

Team takes advantage of nice weather

Macomb, Ill. – Competing at three different meets in three different states, the Milwaukee men's track & field team continued its dominance with outstanding results at all three meets Saturday.
 
"The team did great today," assistant coach Eric Kramer said. "Everybody was very excited to finally see some decent weather and they all took advantage of it and put up some really great marks. We had a lot of individuals improve on their conference standings. It's definitely good to see a fire in the team."

One day after winning the 110m hurdles at the storied Mt. SAC Relays, Nate Pozolinski posted another solid time in the event just down the road at Long Beach State University's home meet. The junior came in fifth out of 54 with a strong time of 14.18 seconds.

The Panthers were dominant from start to finish, doing what they have been all season: winning. Despite only competing in a handful of events, UWM won an impressive six events at Western Illinois' annual home meet.
 
Milwaukee won its first running event of the day as Garrett Miller claimed a win in the 1500m. The junior crossed the line in 4:03.30 – just shy of a new personal best.
 
Shawn Bohler made it 2-for-2 for the Black & Gold with a win in the very next event. Bohler topped the field in the 110m hurdles with a season-best time of 15.04. Ryan Vinhal also did well in the event, taking seventh with a PR time of 15.98.
 
Bohler later completed the sweep of the hurdle events by also claiming the top spot in the 400m hurdles. The senior just edged out the next runner and crossed the line in a solid time of 54.84. Vinhal once again posted a PR, taking sixth in 55.80.
 
Noah Conrad flirted with the school record in javelin. The freshman dominated the field with an incredible throw of 60.63m (198-11), moving into second place in school history. Bohler also did well, taking third overall in his third event of the day with a solid toss of 54.19m (177-9).
 
Alex Butovskiy kept it rolling in high jump. The senior cleared 1.93m (6-4) for his first win of the season.
 
A trio of Panthers turned in some blazing times in the 100m. Sophomore Weston Guilfoyle led the way with an incredible time of 10.72 for fifth on the day. That time now moves Guilfoyle into fifth place in UWM history. Davontae Johnson was close behind in 10.72 seconds, while newcomer Aaron Parks moved into a tie for 10th in school history after taking ninth in 10.84.
 
Another four Milwaukee runners finished inside the top-10 in the 200m. Johnson led the way this time with a season-best time of 21.79 for third. Guilfoyle finished fourth at 22.01, Kyle Becker was sixth in 22.19 and Parks claimed ninth in 22.31. Guilfoyle's and Parks' times both were new personal bests.
 
Gerrit Bruni brought home another Panther win in the 5000m. The senior topped the field of 23 with a winning time of 15:46.15. Brian Schafer came in fifth overall in 16:10.70, while Nick Michalowski was seventh in 16:13.38.
 
UWM just missed another win in the 800m. Tony Sustachek came in runner-up with an impressive time of 1:58.14.
 
Noah Meeteer posted a big PR in pole vault. Meeteer cleared 4.43m (14-6 ¼) for fourth overall on the day, closing in on the school's all-time top-10 list.
 
Warrior Invitational
Milwaukee swept the weight throw events at the Warrior Invitational Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
 
Sam Robinson grabbed the headlines with an incredible showing in shot put. He reached 15.59m (51-1 ¾), moving into seventh place in UWM history. Freshman Miles Kilpin also finished in the top five, taking fourth with a toss of 14.48m (47-6 ¼).
 
In hammer throw it was Silas Petrie's turn. The junior topped the deep field with a throw of 54.31m (178-2), equaling a new PR and improving on his fourth-place standing in school history. Jamar Manning also did well, taking fifth with a solid mark of 44.61m (146-4).
 
Petrie also took the top spot in discus Saturday with an impressive throw of 47.04m (154-4) to lead a host of Panthers. Kilpin came in third overall at 46.40m (152-2), while Marcus Matsche (45.81m), Peter Andrew (43.89m) and Manning (42.81m) were right behind for fourth, fifth and sixth.
 
Up next, UWM will head to the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Ky. next weekend.
