Ford-Washington Gets High Praise After Big Week

Junior named league player of the week

MILWAUKEE – After sparking her team to a pair of huge conference wins, the awards have poured in this week for Sierra Ford-Washington.

The guard for the Milwaukee women's basketball team was named the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced today.

In addition, the Richmond, Minn. native received a pair of honors from College Sports Madness – being named not only their Horizon League Player of the Week, but also the High Major Player of the Week, as well.

The awards are the first for the newcomer to Milwaukee, and this marks the third time a Panther player has been given the league's top weekly honor this season.

Ford-Washington was huge for Milwaukee in its final two home games of the year, averaging 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and six assists. She also shot 50 percent from the floor to help the Panthers to a pair of wins, helping put UWM in sole possession of second place in the league standings with just two games left in the regular season.

On Thursday, Ford-Washington score a game-high 24 points – including going 11-12 from the free throw line – to help the Panthers take down a red-hot Northern Kentucky team that had won six of its previous seven games.

Then, less than 48 hours later, the junior guard was once again the catalyst to help Milwaukee take down Wright State in a battle for second place in the league standings. She poured in a season-high 26 points on 9-17 shooting (including hitting four three pointers) to go with nine rebounds and five assists.

UWM returns to the court Thursday, starting its final road trip of the season with a 6 p.m. Central Time game at Oakland.
