Banged Up Panthers Fall To Phoenix

Lindner leads team with 15 points

Green Bay, Wis. – Tesha Buck scored a game-high 23 points to lead Green Bay to a 69-46 win over the Milwaukee women's basketball team Saturday afternoon from the Kress Events Center.

The league-leading Phoenix (19-3, 9-1 Horizon) – which was ranked in the national top-25 poll just one week ago – used a 22-2 run to start the second quarter to take control of this one and would never look back.

"We knew going into this game we were going to get outside looks and that we would have to knock down some shots tonight and we just didn't do well with that today," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "We were very hesitant today and you just can't do that against a team like Green Bay."

As a team, the Panthers (12-9, 6-4) were held to just 26.9 percent shooting for the game, going 7-26 from behind the arc and 14-52 from the floor.

Jenny Lindner led Milwaukee with 15 points, with nine of those coming in the fourth quarter.

GB claimed a 69-46 advantage on the boards Saturday, just the sixth time this season UWM did not win the rebounding battle. The Panthers claimed a 6-5 edge in blocks in this one and were held to just 26.9 percent shooting from the field.

Milwaukee struggled offensively out of the gates but played solid defense in the opening 10 minutes, hold Green Bay to just 13 points in the opening quarter and trailing by just three after one.

In the second, it was all Buck. The junior went on a 10-0 run herself to start the second quarter and had all 16 of her first-half points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Panthers went ice cold and just couldn't get things to fall, going scoreless for the first seven minutes of the period. In all, GB took a 35-18 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Panthers hung tough and fought hard, cutting the lead to 15 a handful of times but couldn't quite get over the hump in the loss.

Next up, Milwaukee will host its annual school day game Thursday at 11 a.m. when Cleveland State comes to the Klotsche Center.
