Horizon League Selects Kostowicz As Player Of The Week

Franklin native helped spark comeback win Saturday

MILWAUKEESteph Kostowicz of the Milwaukee women's basketball team has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The league honor is the first of the season and third of her career for Kostowicz.

Down by seven at home late in the game, Kostowicz was big in Milwaukee's come-from-behind win over North Dakota State on Saturday. The junior forward started a 9-0 run for the Panthers with a pair of lay-ins, cutting the lead to three. Then, after UWM tied the game, Kostowicz sacrificed her body with a diving steal and started the fast break bucket to give UWM the lead.

In all, the Franklin, Wis. native accounted for 26 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and two steals – with a large majority of her work coming in the decisive fourth quarter.

With the win, the Panthers are now 6-1 to start the season – the team's best start in its Division-I history.

Next up for Milwaukee is a midweek road contest at Illinois State scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 pm.
