Wichmann Up For Spot On Allstate NABC Good Works Team

Named nominee for prestigious award

MILWAUKEECody Wichmann of the Milwaukee men's basketball team has been named a nominee for the 2017 Allstate National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Good Works Team, announced earlier this week by the NABC.

The esteemed award honors an outstanding group of student-athletes who represent the sports finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers.

Wichmann is the team's leading returning scorer from last season and off to a strong start in 2016-17. He is averaging 11.4 points per game and is one of the top three-point shooters in the Horizon League. Wichmann has made 21 3's on the year, sinking them at a 44.7 percent rate.

In the classroom, he earned his undergraduate degree in accounting with a 3.44 grade-point average in three years at UWM. He is currently a graduate student in the master's program during his senior year of eligibility on the court.

In the community, Wichmann has been involved with numerous causes. He has helped conduct basketball clinics for Special Olympians, including some when the team is traveling on the road. He has also done bowling events with the Special Olympics. Other types of work include events with the Boys & Girls Club, Junior Achievement, team reading at hospitals and the "We Got This Program".

Athletic departments and sports information directors across the country nominated the 181 NABC and the 97 WBCA student-athletes for the prestigious honor. Two special voting panels, headlined by former Duke University basketball athlete, two-time NCAA® champion and seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill, and former Notre Dame basketball star, two-time Nancy Lieberman Award winner and current WNBA player Skylar Diggins, will select 10-member teams from both the NABC and WBCA, comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
