MILWAUKEE - Carson Newsome has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Milwaukee Panthers, it was officially announced today by men's basketball head coach
LaVall Jordan.
Newsome, a 6-foot, 5-inch guard, becomes Jordan's first member of the 2017 recruiting class. He currently attends Waukegan High School, in Waukegan Ill.
The Panthers are excited to announce the signing and have Newsome start their current recruiting class.
"We are thrilled that Carson has officially joined our Milwaukee family," Jordan said. "Carson comes from a wonderful family and is an outstanding young man."
A strong student in the classroom, Newsome is also looking forward to being a part of the Lubar School of Business.
"On the court, he will add athleticism and length immediately," Jordan said. "I love his potential defensively and the versatility he brings on offense. He is a great teammate and has a bright future."
Newsome is a three-year starter for the Waukegan Bulldogs. Last year, he averaged twelve points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals per contest, was named MVP at the Grant Thanksgiving Tournament and earned second team all-area honors.
On the AAU circuit, where he played for Coach Mike Mullins and the traditional powerhouse Illinois Wolves, Newsome averaged close to 10 points a game against the best players in the country during the Under Armour Association circuit. He finished second on the team in scoring and rebounding.
