Kostowicz Named Preseason All-League First Team

Panthers tabbed third heading into the season

MILWAUKEE – Junior Steph Kostowicz was named to the Preseason All-Horizon League First Team in the league's annual preseason polling of league head coaches, sports information directors and media. The all-league squads and preseason poll were released Wednesday on the league website, with the Panthers picked third as a team.
 
The Panthers are coming off their best season in 10 years, finishing second in both the regular season and conference tournament and earning a berth to the WNIT.
 
Kostowicz was a big part of that success, leading the team in points (14.0/game), rebounds (8.9/game), field goal percentage (.540) and blocks (48).
 
As a whole, Milwaukee returns the majority of last year's successful squad that won 19 games, including over 85-percent of its scoring from a year ago.
 
Defending league champ Green Bay once again topped the preseason with 29 of the 30 possible first-place votes and 299 total points. Three Phoenix were named preseason all-league, led by senior Mehryn Kraker on the first team.
 
Next up was Detroit Mercy with 253 points to take the second-place spot in the poll. Titan redshirt senior guard Rosanna Reynolds was named the league's preseason player of the year.
 
The Panthers were a close third, with 246 points.
 
Youngstown State came in fourth at 195, followed by Wright State (147), Northern Kentucky (132) and a tie for seventh between Oakland and Cleveland State (131). Oakland also received the lone other first-place vote in the balloting.
 
Valparaiso checked in ninth with 74 points and UIC 10th with 42 points.
 
The Horizon League made all of the announcements today in the Women's Basketball Preseason Show that was made available online starting at 10 a.m.
