MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee men's basketball senior
Matt Tiby has been named to the mid-season watch list for the Lou Henson Award, which is given annually to the nation's top mid-major player. The mid-season watch list was announced late Friday.
Tiby currently leads the Panthers in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 ppg), one of just two players in the Horizon League to rank in the top six in each category this season. A 2015-16 Preseason First Team All-Horizon League selection and a starter in each of the 81 games in which he has appeared during his Milwaukee career, he recently became the 26th player to net 1,000 or more points in a Panther uniform.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the Mid-Major player in division I college basketball. This marks the second year in a row that Tiby has been on the list.
The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who coached 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.
The recipient of the 2016 award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Award Presentation on April 1 in Houston, site of the men's division I national championship.
