MILWAUKEE (September 15, 2015) – Over the summer, the Milwaukee men's basketball program took time to assist the "We Got This," program, which is a crew of young boys who clean up the neighborhood near 9
th and Ring Street in Milwaukee and learn about gardening. Milwaukee men's basketball student-athletes and coaches assisted the neighborhood youth with gardening and clean-up efforts.
"Our team wants to give back," Milwaukee head coach
Rob Jeter said. "The guys enjoyed the opportunity to come out and not only work on the garden, but also pick up trash and help make the neighborhood look nicer."
"The team took the time to work with young, black boys from the neighborhood who thought nobody cared about them, but now they know that UWM will come see them," said Andre Ellis, founder of "We Got This."
Milwaukee men's basketball performed nearly 1,000 hours of community service last year and was the recipient of the Horizon League's Community Outreach Award.
