MILWAUKEE (September 11, 2015) – Former Milwaukee men's basketball forward
Demetrius Harris has landed a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs' opening-day roster for the second consecutive season. The Chiefs open the 2015 National Football League season Sunday (Sept. 13) at Houston.
Last season, Harris appeared in eight games as a tight end, three as a starter, and hauled in three passes for 20 yards before suffering a season-ending foot injury during pregame warm-ups versus the Buffalo Bills in early November. After undergoing an initial surgery, the injury didn't heal properly so he was forced to go under the knife a second time in the spring before recently returning to the field.
Harris played two seasons of basketball at Milwaukee and during his senior campaign in 2012-13, averaged 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, while making 28 starts. During his first season on the Panthers' roster, the 6-foot-7 Harris helped the team to an appearance in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
Harris, who was honored by Milwaukee with his very own bobblehead day at a game last season, is the first Panther to play in the NFL since 1983.
