Jeter Earns Men Who Empower Men Award

Milwaukee men’s basketball coach honored for community contributions

MILWAUKEE (August 4, 2015) – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head men's basketball coach Rob Jeter was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Milwaukee community when he was presented with a Men Who Empower Men (MEM) Award at the 39th Annual Milwaukee Community Journal's Dr. Terence N. Thomas Scholarship Brunch on August 2.

"The impact of fathers, grandfathers, teachers, pastors, counselors, neighbors and community leaders on young men is without question one of the greatest contributors to developing strong men – our future," said Patricia O'Flynn Pattillo, publisher of the Milwaukee Community Journal.

Jeter was one of a handful of men recognized for their significant contributions to the Milwaukee community. The honored individuals were creative, responsible, energetic, strong and committed leaders who make a difference, take chances and take control.

"We are proud of the visibility and engagement efforts Coach Jeter and the men's basketball program contributions on behalf of Milwaukee Athletics, as they go a long way in our goal toward being a meaningful campus and community partner," Milwaukee Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Affairs Deidre Merritt said. "Coach Jeter's dedication to the greater Milwaukee community is commendable and it was an honor to see him recognized for his contributions."

Jeter, who is entering his 11th season as the head coach at Milwaukee, has guided the program to four postseason appearances, including a pair of NCAA Tournament berths, in 10 years. Off the court, the Panthers collected the 2015 Horizon League Community Outreach Award for their outstanding work in the community after performing nearly 1,000 hours of community service.

Jeter has also been at the forefront of a number of charitable ventures off the court, including his extensive involvement in "Shooting For A Cure," a Wisconsin-based Coaches vs. Cancer event that debuted in 2008. In the classroom, Milwaukee's men's basketball team carries a cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
