MILWAUKEE (May 15, 2015) – Jeremy Johnson, a 6-foot-3 guard from Champlin Park High School in Champlin, Minn., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and play basketball, Panthers head coach
Rob Jeter announced today. Johnson joins fellow guard
Jordan Johnson in the Panthers' recruiting class.
"Jeremy is a big-time athlete, who in addition to being a standout basketball player, was the state high jump champion as a junior in high school," Jeter said. "He is the perfect fit for Milwaukee and where we are trying to take this program. He possesses athleticism on the wing and has the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter as well as attack off the bounce. Jeremy is the complete package and is the type of player we are always looking to add to the program both from his basketball talents and his performance in the classroom. We couldn't be more excited to have him be a part of the Panther family."
Champlin Park experienced abundant success with Johnson on the roster, going 56-4 in his two seasons on the varsity squad, including a 31-1 mark in 2014-15. A two-time all-conference and team Mr. Defense selection, Johnson helped Champlin Park to a pair of conference titles and to a runner-up finish in the state tournament in 2014-15. Champlin Park was ranked No. 1 in the state for most of his senior season.
Over his final two seasons at Champlin Park, Johnson contributed 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals per game on teams that featured balanced scoring attacks. During the 2014-15 campaign, Champlin Park averaged 86 points per contest and posted an average margin of victory of 35 points.
A deadly long-range shooter, Johnson connected on an impressive 49.5 percent of his three-point attempts over his junior and senior seasons and in 2013-14 set a state record for best three-point field goal percentage with 59 percent accuracy (minimum 70 attempts).
An all-around athlete and exceptional student, Johnson won the state high jump crown as a junior and placed third in the event as a sophomore. He also collected academic all-state honors as a senior.
Milwaukee closed out the 2014-15 campaign by winning seven of its final nine contests, including each of the last four. The Panthers welcome back six of their top seven scorers, including Second Team All-Horizon League forward
Matt Tiby.
