MILWAUKEE (February 23, 2015) – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Steve McWhorter (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's/Indiana State) has been selected as the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week it was announced this afternoon by the conference office. The 6-foot-2 point guard is the first Panther to earn League Player of the Week accolades since November 18, 2013, when McWhorter himself earned the honor.
 
In helping the Panthers to a pair of Horizon League wins last week, McWhorter did it all, averaging 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game, while connecting on 50 percent (12-for-24) of his field goal attempts, including 40 percent (2-for-5) from three-point territory.
 
On February 19, McWhorter matched a career high by pouring in 21 points and adding six rebounds, four assists and a steal to help Milwaukee to a 71-60 victory over UIC for the Panthers' first true road win of the 2014-15 campaign. He followed that up with a memorable Senior Day performance in Milwaukee's 66-60 win versus Cleveland State on February 22. In that contest, McWhorter just missed out on registering his fourth double-double of the year with 13 points, nine assists, four boards, two blocks and a pair of steals.
 
Over the last four games, McWhorter is contributing 16.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 6.5 apg and 2.5 spg, while shooting 52.1 percent (25-for-48) from the field and 50 percent (5-for-10) from three-point range. He has scored in double figures in 24 of his team's 28 contests this season and has started all 63 games in his Milwaukee career.
 
Milwaukee closes out the 2014-15 season with a pair of games in Ohio this week, beginning with a February 26 contest at Wright State.
