MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee men's basketball team has been notified that it will post a perfect Academic Progress Rate score of 1,000 when the NCAA officially releases the information to the public in the spring.
Â
The perfect single-year score will mark the second in a row for head coach
Rob Jeter's squad.
Â
"The hard work the team is putting in continues to show in our APR score," Jeter said. "We are proud of what we have accomplished and continue to accomplish when it comes to the work that is getting done in the classroom and the changes that have been made."
Â
The back-to-back elite scores have moved Milwaukee's four-year average to 962. In addition, the current roster of the men's team posted a 3.014 GPA last semester.
Â
Technically, the APR is calculated by having each scholarship player count for one point per semester for remaining eligible and another for remaining in the program. The total points are divided by total possible points, then multiplied by 1000.
Â
In addition to the tremendous APR news, Jeter announced that three former players have returned to campus and have completed their degrees following professional playing careers.
Â
"One of the great things about playing college basketball is when our guys are done with their careers here at Milwaukee, they still have a career to play professionally overseas," Jeter said. "What's even greater than that is these guys are coming back to finish their degrees once they decide to stop chasing their basketball dreams. I am proud of my guys that have made the commitment to not only be better basketball players, but to also come back and finish their degrees."
Â
Former Panthers Marcus Skinner, Mitchell Carter and Michael Tyler have all come back to Milwaukee and earned their degrees.
Â
"The fact that our guys are coming back to finish is important to our program," Jeter said. "It not only shows the commitment of the guys, but the importance and commitment from us as a staff and as a department for them to earn their degrees."
Â
Skinner earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Carter a Bachelor of Science in Africology and Tyler a Bachelor of Science in Information Science & Technology.
