MILWAUKEE (November 23, 2015) – Members of the Milwaukee men's basketball program took time out of their busy schedule to volunteer at the event of a lifetime over the weekend. Braving cold, windy and snowy conditions, Panthers coaches and student-athletes lent a helping hand at the commissioning of the newest combat ship to enter the U.S. Navy fleet – the USS Milwaukee.
Milwaukee men's basketball student-athletes and coaches spent the day shuttling veterans and other guests from remote parking lots to the ceremony at Veterans Park. Built in Marinette, Wisconsin, the USS Milwaukee is the fifth battleship to be named after the city.
"This was a chilly, but very rewarding experience for all of our guys," Milwaukee head coach
Rob Jeter said. "It was an honor to play such a small part in a landmark event for the city of Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin."
