NOTRE DAME, Ind. (November 17, 2015) –
Playing its fourth game in five days, Milwaukee (3-1) gave No. 18 Notre Dame (2-0) all it could handle, but dropped an 86-78 decision tonight at Purcell Pavilion. The loss snaps the Panthers' seven-game winning streak, which dated back to last February.

"When Notre Dame decides to turn it up, they are difficult to handle," Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter said. "But I was really pleased with how we battled back. Although it hurts to lose, we can take away a lot of positives from tonight."

Milwaukee rode some hot shooting, especially from beyond the arc, to build a first-half lead of as many as six points. A long three by Austin Arians, his third of the period, gave the Panthers a 29-23 lead, but Notre Dame closed the half on a 16-2 run for a 39-31 halftime advantage.

Playing like a veteran team that was not intimidated to be playing on the home floor of the No. 18 team in the country, Milwaukee hit 6 of 9 threes in the opening 20 minutes but turned the ball over six times in the final six minutes as the Fighting Irish made their late surge. Arians and Jordan Johnson managed nine points apiece for the Panthers, who played most the half with starting forward J.J. Panoske on the bench due to foul trouble.

Panoske hit a jumper to open the second-half scoring, but Notre Dame responded by going on a 26-12 run to push the lead to 65-45, the largest of the night.

But, Milwaukee showed its mettle and refused to go down without a fight using its torrid long-range shooting to get back into the contest. Four treys – two from Akeem Springs and one each from Arians and Panoske – were part of a 16-5 surge that cut the Panthers' deficit to 70-61 with 6:42 remaining.

A three-pointer by V.J. Beachem kicked off a 9-3 Notre Dame run that extended the lead to 15 and gave the Irish some breathing room. Milwaukee chipped away at the deficit and Arians' fifth triple of the night with four seconds left brought the Panthers within single digits.

Springs matched a career high with 21 points, hitting 7 of 12 shots from the field, including all four of his attempts from long range, while Arians added 19 points on 5 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc. Matt Tiby notched his second double-double of the young season with 16 points and 13 boards and Johnson pitched in 11 points and 10 assists for his first career double-double. Milwaukee shot 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field for the night, including a whopping 66.7 percent (14-for-21) from three-point distance.

Demetrius Jackson led Notre Dame with 20 points and seven assists.

After playing its first four games on the road or at neutral sites, Milwaukee finally returns home to host Trinity International Friday (Nov. 20) at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised locally on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
