MILWAUKEE - Lizzie Odegard of Minnetonka, Minn., Jamie Reit of Stanley, Wis., and Jaye Dawn Two Bears of Cannon Ball, N.D., have all signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, head coach
Kyle Rechlicz announced today.
Â
"I couldn't be more excited to announce our 2016 recruiting class," Rechlicz said. "They are a group with outstanding skill, high moral character and wonderful families. All three players are extremely competitive and want nothing more than to help take Milwaukee to the top of the Horizon League."
Â
The trio come to Milwaukee from three different states and will all be seniors in high school this upcoming basketball season.
Â
Odegard, a senior at Minnetonka High School, led her team to a 22-7 record a year ago. The 6-foot forward averaged 10 points and 12 rebounds a game and was named All-Lake Conference as a junior, her first season at the school after transferring. She was the recipient of the Skipper Award for most spirit in 2013 and started her career with Honorable Mention All-Suburban East Conference honors as a freshman 2012.
Â
"Lizzie is a skilled perimeter forward," Rechlicz said. "Her determination to become a force offensively and defensively can be seen by the improvements she has made year after year. She fits our system perfectly and her work ethic will get her on the court. She plays with emotion and will bring a level of excitement to Panther Basketball."
Â
Reit enters her senior season at Stanley-Boyd High School coming off a junior campaign in which she was named the repeat winner of the Chippewa County Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She averaged 21 points, adding 11.1 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 2.7 assists per game. A 2014-15 First Team WBCA Division 4 All-State honoree, she led the Orioles to a 16-8 record and was named Western Cloverbelt Conference Player of the Year and first-team all-league. A three-time first-team All-Chippewa County selection, Reit averaged 19.6 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists per game as a sophomore, earning her First-Team All-Western Cloverbelt honors for the first time following second-team status as a freshman.
Â
"Jamie is one of the most athletic combo-guards I have ever recruited," Rechlicz said. "She has a great mid-range game which is hard to find in players coming out of high school. That, along with her ability to rebound and defend, will help her bid for time early in her career. The last few years, our staff has focused on getting some of the best players in Wisconsin and we were successful again this year with Jamie."
Â
A Standing Rock Lakota Sioux who will be entering her senior season at Shiloh Christian High School, Two Bears endured a difficult junior year in which she tore her ACL twice. She played in six games, averaging 7.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. That came after a sophomore campaign in which the well-rounded guard piled up 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.1 steals per game. That year she led her team to a state runner-up appearance and was named a unanimous selection for the state all-tournament team. Ranked No. 178 in the country by Blue Star Reports, she is a four time all-district and all-region player and was selected to the
Sports Writers All-State team in 2012 while playing for NewTown High School. She will become the first reservation-bred Native American to play for the Panthers.
Â
"Jaye is a high-level combo guard with a lot of potential," Rechlicz said. "She loves playing the game and it's easy to see that in the way she moves on the court. She has flash to her passing, which will excite the crowd and her length on defense will create opportunities for us on offense. Jaye's talent and passion will take her a long way on our team and in our conference."
