"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Gottlieb," Milwaukee Director of Athletics
Amanda Braun said. "Bob was a well-respected coach who helped the Milwaukee program during its initial foray into NCAA Division I play in the late 1970s and touched numerous lives in his coaching career. Our condolences go out to his wife Jane, and children Doug, Gregg and Wendy, as well as the rest of his family and countless number of friends."

Prior to joining the Milwaukee program, Gottlieb was the head men's basketball coach at Jacksonville University. He led the Panthers to a pair of winning seasons during his stint in Milwaukee, with his best mark coming in 1976-77, when UWM went 19-9 and recorded an eight-game improvement in the win column.

Gottlieb honed his craft under some of the greatest coaching minds in the game, serving as an assistant coach to Eddie Sutton, Tex Winter, Ralph Miller and Jack Hartman, among others.

After leaving the collegiate coaching ranks, Gottlieb ran the Branch West Basketball Academy, a year-round personal training center in Orange County, California.
