MILWAUKEE (November 17, 2014) – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee guard
Justin Jordan (Davidson, N.C./Hargrave Military Academy) has been named Horizon League Freshman of the Week it was announced this afternoon. He earned the award for his performance in the Panthers' season opener at Auburn on Nov. 11.
Jordan came off the bench to play critical minutes in the first half when starting point guard
Steve McWhorter was forced out of the game due to foul trouble. The 6-foot-3 freshman collected 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal in 23 minutes of action, with seven of those points coming during the first half. His efforts played a pivotal role in Milwaukee taking a 32-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
He wound up finishing the night 5-for-7 from the field and hit his only attempt from three-point range. Jordan's 11 points at Auburn are the most by a UWM true freshman in a season opener since Tony Meier recorded 14 points against Loyola Marymount on Nov. 14, 2008.
Jordan and his Milwaukee teammates play their home opener tonight at 7 p.m. against Minnesota Crookston.
