MILWAUKEE (November 12, 2014) – Matt Tiby (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale/Kirkwood CC) a junior on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball team, has been named to the 2014-15
Lou Henson Award Watch List it was announced today. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Mid-Major Player of the Year.
In his first season with the Panthers last year, the 6-foot-8 forward helped the program to a memorable run through the Horizon League Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Tiby averaged 12.0 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game in 2013-14 and recorded six double-doubles.
A member of the 2014 Horizon League Championship All-Tournament Team, Tiby is a 2015 Preseason Second Team All-Horizon League selection. Last year, he scored in double digits on 24 occasions, five times topping the 20-point plateau.
Tiby is one of three Horizon League players on the Lou Henson Award Watch List, along with Keifer Sykes (Green Bay) and Trey Lewis (Cleveland State).
The award is named in honor of coaching legend Lou Henson, who retired in 2005 with 779 wins, a total that at the time ranked sixth all-time. One of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the NCAA Final Four, Henson is the all-time winningest coach at both the University of Illinois and New Mexico State University.
The recipient of the 2015 Lou Henson Award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet in Indianapolis on April 3.
